This morning, we were discussing politics during coffee - and I guess this will be my daily bread for the next 8 months.
I understand what the primaries and caucuses are, and I was wondering what the result would be. Well the discussion goes on and on and on, and I am horrified to discover that I know more than the people around me - and i don’t know much !
Frightening …

I don’t want to be the typical French anti-American, but welcome to the USA!
I guess the problem is the same in any developped country, people just don’t understand how their country is politically structured. Just go ask people in France why they voted for Sarkozy… You would probably get a lot of “because he looks young and dynamic”. They absolutely don’t know what his programme is and political preferences are often based on the sympathy for the candidate. So in a more objective way I would say “welcome to the civilized world” ;)
At least in countries with direct presidential elections (vs indirect elections as in the USA), you get what you asked for - wether it’s a program or …. a look (sic).
Here, we’re electing the most powerful man in the world …
I sometimes think that the greeks were right when they only allowed the “civic-ly” educated athenians to go vote on the Agora ;-)
