From Tumblr to Wordpress - 28 days later

I installed wordpress on this domain 28 days ago.

Since then, I managed to post on average one post every day, received about 20 comments and pingbacks (ok, 80% of comments are from my friend Michael), posted about politics, religion, business, and any thought that crossed my mind, used my Tumblr as a “receptacle” for all my feeds, … I actually managed to do exactly what I expected and understood by myself what the difference between blogging and micro-blogging.

But the most interesting thing is the visibility and trafic. I use Google Analytics for both laurentk.tumblr.com and laurentk.com (wordpress), and I also use the FireStats plugin for Wordpress. I used to receive between 5 and 10 uniques a day on Tumblr (also one of the reasons I decided to try wordpress), now I average between 50 and 60 uniques a day over the last 2 weeks (I know this is extra low, quasi-inexistant, but it’s interesting to me). It means about 1,500 uniques a months, and about 2,000 pageviews at the current ratio.

I don’t do a lot more to promote my blog. But what wordpress adds that’s priceless towards tumblr, are the URI. Besides, some basic options and plugins  of a blog make geting trafic easier. Pinging,  sharing on Delicious and other bookmarking tools, adding to Technorati, …

What got me some trafic so far:
- talking about apple stores, Job’s keynote, the Mac vs PC pricing comparison,
- talking about tumblr templates,
- surprisingly, talking about the Islamic schism,
- my efforts to understand the US election process.

    Hi Laurent,
Found this post while researching some info on Tumblr’s lack of pingbacks for a post I’m writing. Like you, I switched and haven’t really looked back.

Looks like you could use a spam plugin. I recommend Spam Karma 2: http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/.
