Is Craigslist is worth $5 billion ? Based on some analysis by ClickZ, AlleyInsider has proposed an estimated valuation of $5 billionof the company - but more interestingly potential profit of $500M. But Craigslist wants to remain a non-for-profit.
Let’s not go the Wikipedia route - or just a little. As it’s been discussed over and over and overagain, Wikipedia has a huge potential for advertisers, but remained so far a non-for-profit, a foundation. And it just reached its 10 millionth article, a continued growth almost a decade, and will certainly surpass 70 billion pageviews in 2009.
So take a few hundred millions from Craigslist and Wikipedia, and imagine the number of things you could do for the world (hunger, education, diseases, …). At which point does it become selfish to raise the banner of non-for-profit when you could do so much for the world ? And that would be good for the image, even better than the non-for-profit mojo.
It’s been discussed over and over, nothing new here. Just a thought.
