Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
It’s a bit late to blog about it, but I saw the new Indiana Jones the day it came out. Very funny crowd at the Ziegfeld theater in mid-town. There were even a few “Inidies” in the crowd, playing with their hats and whips.
All in all: I LOVED IT, plain simple. But I’m a huge fan, saw each movie a few dozen times, can quote by heart (when Walter, the bad guy helping the nazis, says he’ll easily find Marcus Brody): “The hell you will ! He’s got two days head start, which is much more than he needs ! Marcus has friends in every village from here to the Sudan, he speaks at least a dozen languages, he knows every culture and custom, he’ll blend in and disappear, you’ll never see him again !! With any luck, he’s got the grail already !!”.
On the good side: it’s Indiana Jones, 20 years later. He’s old, true, but he is charming, funny, adventurous. The story line sticks to the 50’s (Roswell + UFOs). I stopped breathing a few times, the action is good, the actors are good, Shia is fun.
On the bad side: No, it’s not a “good” movie. Some scenes are way overdone, the UFO thing is pushed too far, and you feel Lucas all behind. It’s not as good as last crusade (far from it), but it’s better and Temple of Doom.
Should you go see it ? Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a 77%. If you’re a fan of Indy, you’ll spend two hours smiling like a kid. If you’re not specifically a fan of Indiana Jones, avoid the movie.
