Yeeha! An Apple Store in Paris!

Apple Store on 5th AvenueOk this should come out as a little ironic … and sad: we, in France, don’t have any Apple store. There are Apple “counters” or departments in FNACand other super-stores (as in BestBuys in the US), but no Apple Store boutique.

And now the news finally broke (in french here): an Apple store will open in Paris, and in what location, please? Nothing less than the Louvre:

Musée du Louvre - The Louvre

The famous museum welcomes over 9M visitors every year - compare it to the 3.5M of the Empire State Building, or the 4.6M of the Met Museum - and is a real landmark in Paris. It would be like opening a store below the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Trimphe.

So here’s my “Welcome Apple!” blog post !

This sucks, they open it now I have just left Paris… ;)

I don’t know if the location has been chosen wisely. Sure the Louvre is an emblematic place and a symbol of Paris, but come on, when does the average Parisian go there? Once a year if he’s lucky. The Louvre is also widely assimilated to American and Japanese tourist (no offense!) and isn’t at all considerated a cool place to hang out. Even on Champs Elysees you find more locals than in the Louvre.
It had been widely discussed and speculated that it could open in much more strategic places for the local Apple core customers like Bastille or Saint Germain.
    We’ll see the figures… ;)
