Still on the final track for CabEasy.com v1 launch, I’ve been wondering if Dreamhost was the best option to support the first batch of users. I - of course and sorry in advance … - intend to spam my friends to ask them the favor of beta-testing the site, and spreading the word. Being french and living in New York, this will mean a stream of visitors from Europe and the US as early as the beta launch.

I’ll give you an answer, you’ll have to find the question:
“We don’t really have servers in New York … This is to advertise the fact that you can access our servers from anywhere, including New York …”.
So ?
A guess ?
My question was: “Can I have an IP of one of your servers in New York ?”.
Not funny yet, but here is the whole story: I am looking for a web hosting company with servers in New York. I found this one: Hostik. Their site says: “We provide Web Hosting for New York City and around the world: Albertson, Poughkeepsie, Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton, Irondequoit, Manhattan, Yonkers, White Plains, New York City, Colonie, Reno, and Brighton.” (see here).
“Misleading advertising” they say ? ;))
I’ve been writing more and more about CabEasy.com (new name for ShareMyCab.net), and there is a reason to that: over the last month, I’ve spent a lot of week-ends and evenings working on it. I should be able to release a first version soon.

With the release of the final beta version of CabEasy.com (new name of ShareMyCab.net) planned early November, I started revamping the design of the website.

Lazy pervert, Draw blood, …. Some titles of the songs sung this afternoon for the Scum City punk concert in Tompkins Square Park
Few days ago, I posted a list of names that I shortlisted for the new ShareMyCab name. Thanks to all of you for the facebook messages, the comments and the emails to give me your opinion. The final shortlist comes down to 3 names:
- Cab2Share.com
- CabEasy.com
- 101Cab.com
Until now, I haven’t made a final choice. I figured, if I could visualize it, it could help. So this afternoon I have been playing to create some potential amateurish logos. I’m “writing out loud” what I think about each name and I hope that when I’ll be finished with that post, my choice will be made !
Cab2Share.com
The name is good because it’s explicit … but for an english speaking person only. Non-english won’t have any problem with “share” but the “2″ - to be read or understood as “to” - won’t make it … If a french speaking person would tell about my site, I guess she would literally say “cab two share dot com” and then would have to explain the 2 = to thing. The first logo is interesting though …

CabEasy.com
CabEasy is a good name. It’s not the most sexiest of all, but it’s easy to remember, and applicable to all languages. And it’s short, 7 letters. CabEasy.com flows, and it also makes some sense. Not the core business (sharing cabs to save money and protect the environment) but it relates to cabs, and to my process (that I try to make super easy). CabEasy.com. Cab Easy dot com: share cabs, save money, be green. As easy as that. Like it.

101Cab.com / 5050Cab.com
101Cab.com means nothing. 5050Cab.com means cheaper cabs because you’re sharing the fare. But ShareMyCab is not only about cheaper cabs, it’s also about a greener environment. However, both of them are easy to say and remember. And they flow just right. The only thing is that the “101″ expression makes sense in english, not in other languages. The 5050Cab.com logo looks good though.

Well I’ve reach the end of that post. And I think the choice will be … CabEasy.com. I’ll leave myself - and you !!! - a few days before signing off on it ;)

ShareMyCab.net is a soon-to-be officially beta-launched service that allows taxi travelers to share their cab rides. You might have been reading it on this blog. I am moving forward on the development of a beta version, i.e. a version that could be used and marketed for real.

I have tons of domain names that I’ve been buying over the last 10 years each time an idea tickled my mind. Here is a list of some of them that might probably never use. All are .com except when indicated otherwise. So if you’re interested, let me know in the comments ! I’ll contact you “off-site”.
