I just came back from a wonderful wedding near Lyon, France last week-end in a wonderful castle, the Chateau De Chavagneux. I was discussing with family and friends the Apple passion (hysteria?) happening right now, and my father told me that maybe he could try the iPhone 2g now (this is his phone, I hide myself when he uses it, I am afraid that it might explode …), and that it might be a good time to buy one.

Or: What to do in New York with your mom ??
I know, this is a difficult question. For some, it’s even more difficult when it comes to your mother in law, although the solutions are more simple: loose her in the Ramble of Central Park or enroll her on a hot-dog-eating contest and forget to bring her water. But you don’t want that for your mom, of course.

Goodbye Teddy Bear !!
Last Sunday, my 6 year old thought it was a good idea to bury his teddy bear Gildo - who apparently died fighting a G.I. Joe …. - the same way we buried Martin, his goldfish.
It took me 2 hours to unclog the toilet and sponge the bathroom …

As I wrote recently, I just finished reading Freedom At Midnight, an amazing account of all events that occurred in 1947 and 1948 in India and in the UK that led to India’s independence and partition.

Ok, I have to admit it: I only discovered 24 two months ago.
Of course I heard about the show, but never watched a single minute of Jack Bauer’s crazy 24 hours days. So I started, and got HOOKED. And hooked is not strong enough: I watched more or less a season per week over the last 6 weeks !!!

Ok this should come out as a little ironic … and sad: we, in France, don’t have any Apple store. There are Apple “counters” or departments in FNACand other super-stores (as in BestBuys in the US), but no Apple Store boutique.

It’s been a month that I haven’t written about the campaign, and I wrote more earlier this year about my discovering and understanding of the primaries.

Elections are a much simpler process in a single-party system. Of course. As the president, you designate who you want to succeed to you, and “boom”, you’re done.
You’re allowed to designate your brother (as in the case of Raul Castro), your son (as Bashar Al-Asad in Syria) or even yourself for eternity (as the “Eternal President of the Republic” in North Korea).
In those cases, elections (if any …) are quite straight-forward. Declare who will replace you, have people vote for your protégé (or imprisoned as independent lawyers and judges in Pakistan during the 2008 elections, or killed as some political opponents in Guatemala for the 2007 elections, …), and you’re done.
